Palazzo Vescovile

Capital of the homonymous province and the cultural fulcrum of Salento (Apulia), Lecce is one of the most beautiful art cities in southern Italy. Known as the “Florence of the South,” Lecce knows how to astonish and intrigue visitors and locals alike: its ancient Messapian origins and its archaeological ruins, left behind after Roman domination, fuse with the richness and exuberance of the Baroque churches and palazzi (typically from the 1600s). Palazzo Vescovile is a Renaissance construction with a beautiful and evocative series of loggias

Abruzzo, Molise & Puglia

Puglia is the 'heel' of the Italian boot, the Gargano Peninsula is its 'spur' and Abruzzo and Molise together form the 'ankle'. Hugging the south eastern seaboard of Italy and facing towards the Balkans, the mountainous regions of Abruzzo and Molise differ considerably from Puglia, the richest of the three.

Dominated by the Apennine mountain range, the hinterland of Abruzzo and Molise forms one of Italy's last wildernesses. The coastline of the Gargano Peninsula in Puglia (Apulia) is packed with cliffs, caves and islets. Reaching south is the fertile plain of Tavoliere, and further south a series of upland plateaux (the Murge) descends towards the dry Salentine Peninsula and the Adriatic.
