Galleria dell'Accademia

Founded in 1563, The Academy of Fine Arts was the first school to be established in Europe to teach the techniques of drawing, painting and sculpture. The most famous work is Michelangelo's David, a colossal nude of the biblical hero who killed the giant, Goliath. In addition to other imiportant works by Michelangelo, the Accademia also contains an important collection by some of the greatest Florentine artists of the 15th and 16th Century, inter alia, Fillippino Lippi, Fra Bartolomeo, Bronzino and Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio.
