As an old Drovers’ market town which still boasts a thriving livestock mart, Llandovery has a distinctive and rich history and cultural heritage intertwined with that of the sheep. It just seemed possible to create a festival centred around sheep and wool that celebrated the traditional but in a fun and quirky way!
On the serious side, it was also a chance to fit in with the aims of HRH the Prince of Wales’ Wool Project to increase awareness of the use of wool as a natural and sustainable product and so increase its value. As a local resident, HRH the Prince of Wales has recognised the affinity the festival has with his vision for vibrant rural communities and economies and has become a patron of the festival.
