Set in the heart of the Northumberland National Park and with grounds designed by Capability Brown, Hesleyside is a magnificent and historic house. The ancestral home of the Border Reiver Charlton family since 1343, the land at Hesleyside (from the original pele tower to today's magnificent 18th Century home) has been continuously inhabited by the same family, in an unbroken line, since the reign of Richard the Lionheart.
Historical Note: Same family for nearly 700 years. The Reivers were feuding Border families at a time when cattle raiding was common. The legend of the Hesleyside Spur – which is still in existence – tells of a powerful Charlton matriarch who used to serve the spur on a dish at table to prompt her menfolk to go raiding when the cupboards were bare.

Historical Note: Believed to be the birthplace of Dick Whittington.
Perched on the banks of a river in breathtaking parkland,Dauntsey Park House is a stunningly beautiful country house with something of the 'wow' factor. Originally conceived in the 14th Century as a medieval manor, Dauntsey Manor was extensively remodelled in the 18th Century into today's beautifully proportioned house, with elegant Georgian elevations. An intriguing mix of English country and Italian style with wondrous Murano glass chandeliers.
Historical Note: The Church of St James contains a rare 14th Century doom painting showing the elect ascending to heaven while the doomed are consigned to hell. With seven centuries of colourful history, Dauntsey Park House has many a tale to tell too.
