The Old Manor House

Only seven miles south of Stratford upon Avon and on the edge of the Cotswolds, The Old Manor House is a hidden gem. Tucked away in the village of Halford, this small manor house dates back to the 16th Century and is noted by Pevsner for its Tudor timber façade. Stretching down to the River Stour and surrounded by glorious Warwickshire countryside, the three acres of landscaped gardens offer a tranquil setting in which guests can relaxe and rejuvenate.

Your Hosts

Cordon Bleu trained and well travelled, Jane has extensive experience in corporate hospitality. Imbued with great local knowledge, William, a barrister, loves history, antiques, travel, books and meeting people. Both love entertaining, helping with their guests' itineraries and are delighted to recommend and book local restaurants, including a taxi if required. William and Jane love to welcome their guests to their wonderful home where nothing is too much trouble to ensure they enjoy the most memorable stay.

Guests may relax in its gracious drawing room in chillier months, where the fire is constantly lit, or stroll in its beautiful three acre garden, complete with hard tennis court for the more energetic.

Food and Drink

Inhouse cuisine: Served in the beamed dining room, the breakfast menu changes with the seasons, but will always include fresh orange juice, fruit salad, free range and locally sourced eggs, bacon and sausages for a cooked breakfast, homemade bread and jams, as well as cereals and fresh fruit.  For a more continental breakfast, lovely local cheeses and ham are always available.

On request and, for a minimum of four guests, Jane is sometimes delighted to offer a delicious, home cooked three course dinner. 

Eating out: Choose from a range of quintessential Cotswold inns and restaurants - The Howard Arms, a stunning, 400-year-old Cotswold stone inn in Ilimington, The Bell at Alderminster, a traditional country pub and restaurant, The Ebrington Arms, an unspoilt 17th century inn with open log fires and Cotswold stone walls, The Old Mill in Shipston on Stour for a gastronomic restaurant experience or the traditional charms of The Eight Bells in Chipping Campden. Your hosts will be delighted to book you a table and even organise a taxi to take you there and back.

On the map: 7 miles south of Stratford upon Avon (15 minutes), 16 miles from Junction 11 of the M40 (30 minutes)

By car: From Junction 11 of the M40, follow the A422 to Pillerton Priors. At Pillerton Priors, join the B4451 until reaching the Fosseway (A429). On reaching Halford, take the first available turning on the right, follow the road and you will see the black and white gable end of The Old Manor House and the sign is on the white gate

By train: To Moreton in Marsh (London Paddington 1 and 40 minutes), then by taxi to Halford (10 minutes)
