Capheaton Hall

Steeped in history and set in glorious Northumberland countryside, Capheaton Hall is a unique place to stay and is open for guests to enjoy and explore for the first time in its history. Dating back to 1668 and a much treasured family home, Capheaton offers a sublime and exclusive wedding experience - comfort, luxury and elegance surrounded by a magnificent park, tranquil gardens, woodland walks and a large lake frequented by a wealth of wild fowl. And yet, within easy access of Newcastle and the breathtaking coastline of Northumberland, studded with castles and wonderful walks.

The backdrop of the beautiful Grade 1 listed Hall with its glorious architecture, and fabulous grounds, makes it the ideal location for a wedding.

Whether you intend to have a close intimate wedding with friends and family or require a more creative affair, you have the space and beautiful surroundings to do so. The Hall is provided exclusively to you for your wedding celebrations, with the spacious West wing accommodation a few steps across the lawn, sleeping up to eight wedding guests and the delightful landscaped gardens for you to enjoy.

Your Hosts

The Swinburne family have played an important role in this area of Northumberland since the 12th Century. Eliza and Will Browne-Swinburne took over Capheaton in 2008 and set about renovations to open this fascinating home to guests. With a young family, Will still travels to London for part of the week, whilst Eliza presides over a magnificent vegetable garden, luxuriant greenhouses producing a selection of wonderful summer fruits and a selection of animals - dogs, chickens, pigs and ponies.

Location

Northumberland is a magical county filled with ancient castles, beautiful and historic gardens, golden sand beaches, rolling hills, rugged moorland and friendly little market towns. Northumberland is also home to England’s most tranquil and inspiring National Park. There are also two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty waiting to be discovered, the Northumberland Coast and the North Pennines.

With luxury bed and breakfasts in exclusive farmhouses and historic homes, Northumberland is home to the majority of the remaining sections of Hadrian’s Wall and five of the eight excavated forts, including Housesteads and Vindolanda. The county is also home to many miles of paths which often provide spectacular views over a landscape largely unchanged since the days of the Roman legions. Northumberland is all about big skies and breathtaking countryside. It is also the gateway to the Scottish Borders.

  • Stroll around the magnificent grounds where woodland walks take you to a magical lake and tranquil gardens surprise with ponds, adorned with statuary, and an historic chapel folly
  • Explore the two and a half acre, walled vegetable garden which produces delicious home grown fruit and vegetables for much of the year.
  • Or the abundant greenhouses where nectarine, peaches and figs flourish in the summer months
  • For the keen fisherman, trout fishing on the lake is available at extra cost or salmon fishing at Chollerton on the North Tyne, a popular beat no more than 20 minutes from Capheaton, can be booked through Fishpal
  • Take the wild white cattle tour at Chillingham, a fascinating insight into the only survivors of the wild herds which once roamed freely through the forests of Great Britain
  • Plan a tour of Northumberland's famously abundant castles, houses and historic gardens
  • Explore the beauty of the Northumberland National Park, home to some of the greatest landscapes in the county
  • A county for touring, walking and cycling, Northumberland also offers a spectacular coastline, dotted with castles telling of its more ancient history
