Dauntsey Park House

Perched on the banks of a river in breathtaking parkland, Dauntsey Park House is a stunningly beautiful country house with something of the 'wow' factor. Originally conceived in the 14th Century as a medieval manor, Dauntsey Manor was extensively remodelled in the 18th Century into the beautifully proportioned house, with the elegant Georgian elevations, that guests may enjoy today.

Your Hosts

Giovanni and Emma moved into the house with their four children in 2007. Having been sold five times since 1987, major renovations were needed to make the house suitable for a young family and to create lovely guest accommodation. Extensive works to the house itself were finally completed in 2010, as was the installation of a water turbine to make this beautiful country home carbon neutral.

Location

Dauntsey

Lying in the eponymous Vale of Dauntsey and within the Parish of Malmesbury, the tiny Wiltshire village of Dauntsey has an impossibly colourful and romantic history. Sitting in the grounds of Dauntsey Park House, its church, St James the Great, is built on a site that has been used for worship for probably over 1000 years. The Dauntsey doom board or tympanum is one of only five known painted tympana in the country.

Located minutes from Malmesbury and conveniently close to the M4, Dauntsey is a perfect place from which to explore the delights of Bath to the south and the south-western valleys of the Cotswolds to the north-west.

  • Perfect for Badminton and Gatcombe, two of the country's most highly regarded horse trials
  • With Cirencester only 25 minutes away, Marlbourough 30 minutes and Bath 40 minutes away, a perfect place to stay whilst exploring the rich seam of beautiful houses and gardens in the south of the Cotswolds
  • Visit Avebury's world famous stone circle at the heart of a prehistoric landscape
  • Moments from the famed Abbey House Gardens, home to 'The Naked Gardeners'
  • Minutes from the breathtaking 12th Century Malmesbury Abbey, built on a site of worship used from the 7th Century
  • Westonbirt Arboretum, with its spectacular seasonal displays, is less than half an hour away
  • If touring is more your thing, the beautiful villages of Lacock, famous for its abbey, and Castle Combe, oft called the prettiest village in England, are nearby
  • Discover Tetbury, famed for the gardens of Highgrove House and its wonderful collection of antique shops and eateries
  • Bring your clubs and enjoy a round of golf at the Bowood House championship golf course, set in 2,000 acres of Grade I listed parkland designed by Capability Brown
