Your Hosts

Born and brought up at Godwick, James headed for the bright lights of London and a career in journalism. On his return full time to Godwick in 2010, James set his heart upon turning Godwick Hall into a glamorous, luxury bed and breakfast and the Great Barn in the lost village of Godwick into a fabulously romantic wedding venue.

Godwick Hall: Luxury B&B - Gallery

Very luxurious, boutique bed and breakfast accommodation in North Norfolk. Great care and thought has been expended on designing the ultimate in chic, stylish, fabulously comfortable and very smart 21st Century bed and breakfast rooms. Hypnos beds, baths by Ashton & Bentley, Philippe Starck Ghost Chairs, Nespresso coffee machines and the ultimate in drench and soak showers complete the experience.

  • Choose from the romantically named Sara Garner Suite, with the wow factor - a stunning four-poster super king size bed, a beautiful Ashton & Bentley bath that can be controlled from the bed, and stunning views through Georgian sash windows to Godwick. With a large ensuite with plunge shower, Philippe Starke Ghost chairs, an original fireplace and sumptuous wallpaper and finishings, this is very luxurious indeed
  • Or the very glamorous Coke Suite with super king size bed, a glass divide that separates a stunning Ashton & Bentley freestanding bath backed with purple glass.  With lovely natural light and fabulous views, the Coke Suite's clever mix of contemporary and classic styling combines Philippe Starke Ghost chairs, table and original fireplace
  • An upholstered partition gives the Womack Branford room proportion and allows for a tidy desk behind and views of a magnificent Cedar to the north of the house. The ensuite has a plunge shower and natural stone tiles, underfloor heating and stunning views to the west of Godwick where the sun sets over Godwick moor
  • Named after Sir William Hoste, a friend of Norfolk Hero Admiral Horatio Nelson, Hoste moved to Godwick Hall with his father, Dixon Hoste, who was rector of Godwick and Tittleshall. It is the most bijou of the rooms, with luxury slate ensuite and huge plunge shower with aquamarine glass back. The dramatic colours and peacock wallpaper from Cole & Co add a decadent touch
  • All bedrooms offer Nespresso coffee machines, Samsung Smart TVs, luxurious duvets, pillows and bedlinen and utter peace and tranquillity
  • Take a stroll around the lost medieval village of Godwick and its sister parish, Tittleshall, with its origins in Saxon times, and breathe the history
  • Plunge, in summer, into the turquoise pool and relax in this tranquil corner of England
  • Enjoy a delicious breakfast in the glamorous, light filled dining room
  • Relax and enjoy tea and homemade cake, or a glass of wine, on arrival in the wonderfully comfortable and gorgeously designed living room with roaring log fire in winter

A truly magical and romantic destination, Godwick is one of the best examples of a deserted medieval village in the country.

Earthworks of the deserted village and a ruined church tower are still visible showing where the village, which was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, once stood.  The village was populated until the 17th Century, but a series of poor harvests and wet weather in the previous centuries had seen the village decline. The last of the villagers moved on during the 17th Century when working the heavy soils at Godwick finally proved too much for them.

  • Soak in the atmosphere at Walsingham Abbey, famous for the spectacular ruins of a medieval priory or visit Binham Priory, one of the most complete and impressive monastic ruins in Norfolk
  • Walk for miles and miles on North Norfolk’s unspoilt beaches – Holkham Bay with its endless expanse of beach is 12 miles away
  • Visit Cromer and indulge in its famously delicious crabs. Perched on the very edge of the North Norfolk coast, Cromer is famous for more than its tasty crabs - wide open beaches, a traditional pier complete with a theatre providing seaside special variety shows and awash with small local independent shops
  • Go National Hunt racing at Fakenham, set in beautiful North Norfolk countryside
  • If houses and gardens are your thing, explore a wealth of private and National Trust properties, all within half an hour of Godwick – Blickling and Felbrigg and, of course, the famous halls at Houghton and Holkham
  • Bring your clubs and play a round at the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club at Brancaster. An outstanding links course set on the North Norfolk coast, the course is bordered by the North Sea on one side and the saltmarsh on the other, creating a wonderfully atmospheric setting
  • Explore a wealth of other wonderful churches, houses and gardens in Norfolk and Suffolk – East Anglia can well be explored in a few days

On the map: Godwick is situated in the heart of Norfolk, between Swaffham and Fakenham, just off the A1065. It is 25 miles from Norwich, 17 miles from Kings Lynn and just 11 miles from the coast at Wells next Sea
By car: Only two and a half hours from Central London, traffic permitting
By train: To Norwich (50 minutes by car) or Kings Lynn (40 minutes by car). Trains from London Liverpool Street take just under two hours to Norwich and 1 hour and 35 minutes from London Kings Cross to Kings Lynn.
By air: To Stansted, then hire car and a journey of some 90 miles.
