Palazzo Tommasi

Built on a hilltop, steeped in history and synonymous with elegance, Cortona is a dream destination with a glorious past. The legendary de' Medici family ruled Cortona in the 15th Century and it was during this Renaissance period that Palazzo Tommasi was constructed as one of the most noble residences in Tuscany. Famous Cortonese artist, Luca Signorelli, an old master painter, likely student of Piero della Francesca and precursor of Michelangelo, and architect, Pietro Berrettini, were involved in the building of Palazzo Tommasi.

Today Palazzo Tommasi has been meticulously restored to its former glory. It's divine, indulgent and quite simply glorious.

Your Hosts

After a restoration spanning four years, Peter and Inge finally moved into the Palazzo Tommasi in 2014.  A qualified physiotherapist and Natural Face Lifting practioner, Inge offers a range of treatments at Palazzo Tommasi as well as classes in yoga.

Palazzo Tommasi: Gallery

With historic frescoes on the walls and ceilings, original Renaissance artifacts and period furniture, the stunning bedroom suites and their extraordinarily beautiful (but 21st Century) bathrooms offer accommodation befitting a palace. Palazzo Tommasi takes our term 'fabulous places to stay' to a new level. It's divine, indulgent and quite simply glorious. With its elegant suites overlooking the Piazza Signorelli and the beautifull Etruscan MAEC Museum, Palazzo Tommasi is full of amazing stories related to the art and culture of the Italian Renaissance. Frescoes from acclaimed Baroque Masters offer insight into the dreams, follies and symbols of the nobility of the past. A stay at Palazzo Tommasi offers a rare and unforgettable experience.

Both Suites offer free WiFi throughout, a satellite flat-screen TV, a computer and coffee facilities. Slippers, free toiletries and hairdryers are included in the private bathroom.

  • The Palazzo Tommasi Suite Principessa is a real treasure offering elegance and beauty. Its royal bed is surrounded by authentic 16th century Baroque frescoes created by famous Masters
  • Finished in a rare marble called "Onice Miele" meaning golden onyx, the fabulous Principessa Suite bathroom glows in a rare and precious light
  • The Palazzo Tommasi Suite Signorelli presents 500 years of ancient patina, a most noble bed, the finest tapestry, arts and antiques
  • Lie in the historic marble bathtub and enjoy an extraordinary atmosphere as you take in the beautiful fireplace illuminating the frescoes above
  • Sit at the 16th Century "scrivania" (writing desk) of the Grand Duke of Tuscany and describe this unqiue and amazing place
  • Take a leisurely breakfast in the dining room surrounded once more by exquisite frescoes and perfectly beautiful furniture and artifacts
  • Combine your stay at Palazzo Tommasi with a personal Beauty and Body and Balance program. After your arrival, Inge will help you create your personal program of treatments

  • Take a day trip and enjoy the sheer beauty of Siena and one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares, as well as countless historic museums and churches – it’s only an hour away
  • Less than an hour away, Arezzo is home to the 13th Century Church of San Francesco which houses one of Italy’s greatest fresco cycles, the Legend of the True Cross (1452-66), Piero della Francesca’s masterpiece
  • Visit Italy’s fourth largest lake, Lake Trasimeno, a place of great tranquillity and melancholy beauty
  • Montepulciano, one of Tuscany’s highest hill-towns, is under an hour away.  With magnificent views over Umbria and southern Tuscany and the famous Vino Nobile wine that has made it famous, Montepulciano’s streets are brimming with Renaissance palazzi
  • Discover the birthplace of Piero della Francesca, Sansepolcro.  The town’s Museo Civico contains two of his masterpieces, The Resurrection (1463) and the Madonna della Misericordia (1462)
